Propaganda notes
Paper money containing a political slogan or a didactic element. During the Second World War forgeries of German and Japanese notes were produced by the Allies and additionally inscribed or overprinted with slogans such as 'Co-Prosperity Sphere - What is it worth?' (a reference to the Japanese occupied areas of Southeast Asia). Forged dollars with anti-American propaganda were air-dropped over Sicily by the Germans in 1943 and counterfeit pounds with Arabic propaganda over Egypt in 1942-3. Various anti-communist organisations liberated propaganda forgeries of paper money by balloon over Eastern Europe during the Cold War period.
